History of M.O.G.
On December 5, 1999, seven brothers (God's number of completion) who had been attending a weekly bible study at a local Lubbock, TX community church (Community Baptist Church) decided to compile their gifts and talents given by God, to be used by God in order to effectively minister to the body of Christ. Spencer Jones, Rodney Shepherd, Bryan Miller, Dameon Randall-Dennis, Roswell Smith Jr. and David Moody III heeded to the word of God, which states, "the harvest is great but the labors are few." The brothers felt the power of God on their lives to bring about this much-needed ministry to the Lubbock community and to the world so that Christian brothers could truly serve God through ministry. On this date the mission, vision, purpose, and focus were written down and from that came what you see today. The first meeting held by the founders was on December 5, 1999 at one of the founder’s apartments. The founding chapter at Texas Tech University is now officially the Eleazar Chapter.
During a Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Step Show in Lubbock, TX, Men of God was called to minister and the founding brothers had to select a name. The founders could not agree on a name because the brothers simply wanted to be known as, “Men of God.” That night the name, Men of God was established.
Today, these brothers and many others are part of a royal priesthood, a chosen generation, and a holy nation that is called to be the head and not the tail. The brothers of Men of God want to take the lead in guiding this holy nation by bringing together and unifying people of various backgrounds, on one accord in serving God. After the initial seven worked tirelessly to minister to others while establishing the organization as a force others came to the organization and the fraternity became incorporated on December 11, 2000.
In a short existence, the brothers have ministered at numerous events including church functions, conferences, step shows, and university programs in and around the state of Texas. Men of God has done countless hours of community service and has sponsored and supported many events such as the "Raise Da Praise" Jesus Party, NMMBC Retreat, T. D. Jake's "Man Power", the Impact Movement, and Men of God’s own Kingdom Conference: A meeting of the Kingdom Warriors. The Fraternity does a number of outreach ministries and has led a number of souls to Christ.
The brothers continue to press on toward the mark in which God has called the ministry. The brothers of Men of God want to continue to bring together the true essence of fellowship, leadership, education of the word, and servant-hood and continue to have a vision of bringing these attributes together in one organization so that all brothers can come and partake of the power of God, which comes after brothers truly, dwell together in unity.
Arming themselves with Ephesians 6:10-18 so that they will remain firm in their stance and truly believing that it is good when brothers dwell together in unity, these brothers continue to prepare themselves for spiritual warfare, for bring others to Christ, and supporting and promoting the Christian Culture.
Mission
In compliance with the word of God as stated in Eph. 6: 10-18, Men of God is dedicated to living free through the fellowship of brothers (1 Peter 3:8-9 & Acts 2:42-47), education through the word of God (2 Tim. 2:15), and salvation through our Lord and savior Jesus Christ (John 3:16 & Romans 10:13).
Vision
We envision a scriptural- based, Christ-centered organization in which college-aged men seeking a greater knowledge of Jesus Christ can come and receive fellowship, education, leadership, salvation, and learn to foster a spirit of servant-hood for and through Jesus Christ.
Group Purpose
We believe that persons drawn to this organization have been so led by the spirit of God, having already been equipped with the tools necessary to become a warrior for Christ. Thus, our objective is to merely encourage such a transition, refining those gifts and talents given by God so that overall, the body of Christ may be uplifted.
Theme/Slogan
The overall theme for the Men of God Organization is “Raising the Standard and Standing Firm.” “Men of God” is dedicated to raising the standard of the men who live in today’s society and claim to be Christians. We believe in truly being the Men in which God has called us to be thus requiring us to live at a higher standard than others in the world. “Men of God” wants to live at that standard and be an example to others of how to get and stay at that level. After “Raising the Standard,” there will be many that try to discourage us and knock you off and out of the place where God has placed us. Instead of them trying to come up to your level, they will try to bring you down to their level. Thus, it is important to “Stand Firm,” (Eph.6: 10-18) with the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand your ground. Men of God is going to stand firm in its faith in God and continue to raise and live at the standard in which he has called us to be.
